DetailsFirst and second fix carpentry, fitted furniture, staircases, doors and bespoke joinery.
Carpentry is where a build stops looking like a building site. Doors that close on the latch, skirting with no gaps at the mitres, a fitted wardrobe that looks like it was always there.
First fix covers the structural timber that disappears into the building: floor joists, stud partitions, roof timbers, noggins and door linings. Second fix is everything you see and touch afterwards — architrave, skirting, doors, ironmongery, stairs and fitted units. We do both, which means the second fix isn't fighting a first fix someone else got slightly wrong.
Older Sheffield housing stock is rarely square, which is why off-the-shelf furniture ends up with a two-centimetre gap down one side. Alcove units, window seats, bookcases, understairs storage and wardrobes are scribed to the actual walls rather than the ones the plan says you have.
Usually yes. Common Victorian and 1930s profiles are still available, and where they aren't we can have a matching profile run from a sample or an offcut.
Both, depending on the piece. Carcasses are usually made off-site to keep dust down, then fitted, scribed and finished in place so it sits tight to the wall.
